Most of you reading this article have fond memories of Opening Day. Everytime I think of Opening Day, there’s one image that I’m sure a lot of you share. I’m walking up the concourse in slow motion, and before me unfolds a scene out of a hollywood movie: the sights, sounds and smells of the stadium and field overload my senses. The players are warming up while the grounds crew puts the final touches on the field that looks too immaculate to be real. Experiences like this spark dreams within a lot of young players. After all, Big League dreams start on Little League fields across the world.

World Baseball Classic

Major League Baseball’s Opening Day festivities are still 30 days away. However, baseball fanatics will get a chance to whet their appetite as the World Baseball Classic is set to begin on March 2nd and run through March 19th. Teams representing 32 countries have been whittled down to a field of 16 that will compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and the title of World Champion.

ASA Rule Update

As of October 1, 2012, ASA has changed the way they are testing their slow pitch bats. With this change, ASA has also created a new stamp for all ASA-certified bats. Don’t worry though, ASA bats with the old stamp are grandfathered in and legal for play moving forward.

Jackie Robinson Day

Yesterday marked the 65th anniversary of when Jackie Robinson first walked out on the field for the very first time with the Brooklyn Dodgers back in 1947, destroying the color barrier in baseball, allowing African Americans to play Major League baseball for the first time. Yesterday all across the U.S. players, managers and coaches wore the number 42 to remember Robinson. Ceremonies and tributes were held on each of the fields to honor the great Jackie Robinson.
