When Rawlings rolled out their initial USA Baseball approved baseball bats, drop 5 and drop 10 bats were well-represented.
The Quatro -10 and 5150 -5 were popular early on, and exclusive models (like the drop 11 Rawlings VELO) gained traction. But with the Easton Beast X as the only drop 12 option on the market for USA Baseball players, Rawlings saw an opportunity. JustBats.com reviews the newest addition to Rawlings' lineup -- the 2018 Rawlings Threat -12 USA Baseball Bat.
Everything you need to know about the USA Bat Standard is all in our Bat Resource Guide and all USA Baseball approved Rawlings bats are all on JustBats.com.
When the new standard was first discussed, Rawlings wanted to lead the charge. The Threat is their attempt to make an affordable bat that meets the standards and still gives young players what they need. Following is a bat review on the
The Rawlings Threat bat does not use the same composite material as the popular Rawlings Quatro. Instead, it utilizes a one-piece, 100% composite construction with a carbon fiber barrel that improves trampoline and overall pop at the plate while offering a stiff feel at impact for further ball flight on contact. The Threat is a figurative threat to pitchers because it's a lightweight, balanced design, so it's the perfect option for younger players who are struggling with their swing speed.
The reason parents, coaches, and players are talking about the Threat is because there aren't many drop 12 options on the market (yet) for USA Baseball bats. Other key features of the Rawlings Threat (-12) USA Baseball bat include:
- -12 length to weight ratio.
- 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter.
- USA Baseball approved. Bat can be used in AABC, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Dixie Youth, Little League, Pony, and USSSA.
- One-piece, composite baseball bat.
- Innovative end cap reduces swing weight for more control.
- Standard Rawlings bat grip optimizes comfort.
- Lightweight design allows for faster bat speeds.
