Do you need a bat? What size do you need? The key to finding the right bat is getting the perfect length and weight that fits you. JustBats.com is here to help. Lets find you a youth bat.

Youth bats can be either wood or metal. Most players prefer using a metal bat because they tend to be lighter and are easier to control. Players from ages 7 to 12 typically use youth bats. These bats have a 2-1/4 inch diameter and range from 26 to 32 inches while the drop weight ranges from -7 to -13. The drop weight indicates the length to weight ratio. It really is a simple concept so don't let it confuse you. Basically, you are just taking weight minus length to come up with a negative number that is called the drop. For instance, a 30 inch bat that weighs 20 ounces is a -10 drop weight. Keep in mind that the higher the drop weight the lighter the bat. It is important to get a bat that fits you so that you can have complete control and maximum performance in every swing. If the bat is too heavy you will lose control and you will more than likely be hitting a lot of foul balls because you are not squarely making contact. If the bat is too light you won't get the maximum amount of power out of your swing. A well hit ball won't go as far as it would with the slightly heavier bat that fits you better. Check out this chart to help you select a bat that will fit your needs. It gives you a ballpark estimate on what size is right for you according to your height and weight. This chart is also available on our website, JustBats.com.

Some of the most common youth leagues are Little League, PONY, Babe Ruth and Dixie League. Remember, it is always a good idea to check your league's rules and regulations as some leagues require a safety certification stamp or will not allow a certain barrel size. Make sure you are aware of any particular specs your league might require, but most importantly go out there and take some cuts and see what bat size really feels most comfortable to you. Experimentation is the best way to really get a feel for what the perfect size bat is.
